Getting To The Island

You can travel to magical Santorini in two ways either by air or by boat

For your visit Santorini, ferries and high-speed catamaran depart daily from the port of Piraeus. In summer, itineraries are very frequent, there are also ferry routes from other ports in the islands of Cyclades, Dodecanese and Crete.

Ferry-boat trip takes about 8-10 hours, while with high-speed about 4-6 hours. There are two ports in magical Santorini, one in the capital, Thira and the commercial one in Athenian port.

Alternatively, you can go to Santorini by air. The island’s airport is about 5 kilometers from Thira, in near Monolithos village and you can get there by bus or by taxi. The flight from Athens takes around 35 – 45 minutes. There is also an air link to many airports in European countries

Athinios port is the main port of the island of Santorini. It is located at the foot of the caldera and is 8 km from Fira, the capital of the island and 7 km from Santorini International Airport. It is the main port of the island of Santorini.

Athinios port is connected to the port of Piraeus daily, there are frequent buses from and to Athinios port from Fira. Also there are many bus routes to every region of the island and at regular intervals. During the summer season (and especially the high season) some bus routes operate until 3:00 in the morning.

Explore the seductive Santorini by bus

For a traveler who does not have a means of transport and wants to explore the island, there are many buses to make it. The central bus station (KTEL SANTORINI) is located in Fira, where there are regular services to the port, the airport, Oia and the main villages, with convenient intermediate stops.

The sunset in Oia is a phenomenon that attracts a lot of people. So early afternoon, the line to Oia has increased traffic. In the middle of the high season are usually added additional routes that helps you discover the whole seductive island.

Taxis in Santorini are widely available for those without a car and can be found waiting for you at the port upon your arrival on the island, also there is a taxi rank in the main square of Thira.

Santorini island buses are available to serve the public in impeccable way. Hours of service are posted at the central stop of Thira Square, so you can be informed at any time.

Otherwise if you do not wish to transfer your car to Santorini to avoid the hassle, you can simply, quickly and cheaply rent a car. Finally if you don’t like any of the upper you can hire a motorbike and plan your trip on your own.
