An island with blue waters and green scenery

If there is an island that will pleasantly surprise you with its beauty and you may not expect it to such a great extent, then this is Kythera. An island that combines turquoise and crystal clear waters with a green and idyllic landscape around. So you can dive and also to enjoy the shade of the trees in a minute. At the same time, you will walk in beautiful and graphical alleys and you will see many sights. The Lighthouse of Moudariou is definitely one of them. And when combined with the sunset the experience is unique.

Kythera has many attractions that have their own history on the island. One of them is the Lighthouse of Moudariou.. The cylindrical lighthouse was built in 1901 by the English in order to facilitate navigation between Kythera and Elafonissos. It is located on the cape of Spathi, It is at the top of the northernmost point of Kythera, very close to the village Platia Ammos and the beach of Agios Nikolaos. Today it is one of the largest lighthouses in Greece. Its height reaches 25 meters while its focal height is 110 meters.

When you visit the lighthouse you will see the wonderful view of the vast sea. In front of you lies, the sea and the Peloponnese can be seen.

Due to the passage between Peloponnese and Kythera you will notice many ships, mainly commercial, crossing the area. Just beyond the lighthouse, there is the sign which was built in the 20th century and was a fortress. The dilapidated sign behind the lighthouse was used to exchange messages with ships passing through the straits.

The lighthouse can be seen if you go for a swim in the morning on the beach of Agios Nikolaos. If you go exclusively to see the Lighthouse of Moudania, we suggest you visit it during the afternoon or afternoon hours. Of course, if you stay until sunset to watch the magical sunset from the stone-built, whitewashed wall that surrounds the Lighthouse.
