Visit mountainous Sfaka for amazing views of the southern Aegean

Sfaka is the second of a string of attractive mountain villages that you come across along the main eastbound roads from Agios Nikolaos to Sitia. At more than 230 metres above sea level, it combines rural tranquillity with a superb view of the southern Aegean Sea.

Modern Sfaka is a rebuilding of an older community destroyed by the Arab invaders in the 9th century. Prominent among the features of the village are a number of imposing churches of some architectural interest, one of them believed to contain a fragment of the True Cross.
