At Pefki, not yet reached by tourism, you will feel like a true Cretan
Pefki is a typical Cretan mountain village situated at an altitude of 420 m with panoramic views of the surrounding verdant landscape. It has all the characteristics of a traditional Cretan village, narrow paved streets, old stone house and a few windmills.
A small folklore museum provides information on the history and the day to day life of the village, whose name is clearly derived from the pine trees that cover the area (pefko is the word for pine tree in Greek). In Pefki there are no facilities such as ATM’s, banks or a post office, so don’t forget to bring money with you.
Stay in Pafki village, a place with a character
There is, however, a petrol station to top up your car on the road from Makry Gialos to Pefki. There are no hotels or apartments for rent in Pefki, as tourism has not yet reached the village, a blessing for those who seek true peace and quiet.
However, in the village of Aspros Potamos on the way from Makry Gialos to Pefki, 2 km from the village, there are old renovated houses for rent for those searching a more traditional type of holiday in Crete.
