Visit Kolibari beach for its relaxed feeling and nice fish taverns
After a 30′ drive west of Chania you reach Kolibari beach, on the east side of the Rodopos peninsula. The beach is a combination of pebbles and sand, there are some umbrellas and sunbeds but if you prefer peace and quiet you can pick an isolated spot. It is not a crowded beach and you can enjoy a nice relaxed swim. The beach is a reproduction site for the rare sea turtle species careta careta, therefore some sections of the beach may be reserved for this lively creatures and their…eggs.

To the west of the beach you can see the monastery of Panagia Odigitria Gonia dating back to the 17th century. Kolibari village is famous for its fish taverns, a must after your swim, and the village itself is definitely worth a stroll in its quaint alleys. Right after Kolibari starts the Rodopos peninsula, part of the Natura 2000 protection network for its amazing landscapes.
