Visit Pyrgos

the enchanting village on Santorini’s highest spot

What makes Pyrgos unique is that it is located at the highest spot in Santorini, providing great panoramic views on both sides of the island. It is situated on the west coast, about 8 kilometers southeast of Fira, the capital of Santorini.

The village consists of traditional houses built around the Venetian castle, and the small streets that follow the natural flow of the surrounding landscape. Pyrgos is built amphitheatrically with three churches inside the village and around it. On the west side lies the church Theotoki or Koimisis of Theotokou that is believed to be one of the oldest churches on the island.

In Pyrgos you can come across some excellent wineries where you can visit the vineyards and learn about the history and production of the famed Santorini wine and, most important, taste the delicious local wines. The accommodation options in Pyrgos consist of traditional houses, hotels, villas to rent, all waiting to enchant you with astonishing views. Staying in Pyrgos can be a real alternative since it is located in the middle of the island.
