The black lava sand at Perissa beach is a magnet for visitors
Perissa is a sea-front fishing village that has expanded to become a tourist magnet in its own right, mainly thanks to the presence of Perissa beach a short distance away. Perissa is a half-hour bus ride from Fira, the main town of Santorini.
The reason most visitors come to Perissa is to take pleasure in the extraordinary beach, which is characterized by deep, dark blue waters and black lava sand. It is fully-organized with sunbeds, umbrellas, beach bars, lifeguards and a playground and it has received the Blue Flag Award.
The village of Perissa is best experienced after a day at the beach, when you can stroll along the main waterfront street showing off your suntan! There is a wide variety of accommodation choices, hotels, villas to rent, rooms to let, plus numerous restaurants serving the famed Santorinian cuisine, featuring local products. From Perissa, a small path crosses the mountain and leads to the ruins of Ancient Thera. Excursions there can be made on foot or on a donkey’s back.
