The fjord of Attica “Aixoni”
The tip of Aixoni is named after the ancient city of Aixoni, which is today’s Glyfada. At the end of the 6th century BC, Klisthenis first formed and divided the coastal area into 4 municipalities: Paleon Faliron, Alimos, Euonymon, which included today’s Vouliagmeni Avenue and part of Ilioupoli and Aixonis.
The word Aixoni means “the area of the goats” and is a composition of the words: “aix” which meant goat and “oni”, which meant territorial boundary. It was one of the largest municipalities of ancient Greece and it is estimated that the area was inhabited since the 3rd millennium BC.

It is a unique place with special natural beauty that looks better when you look at it from above. The fjord of Attica that fascinates. The characteristic is that remnants of that period were found in the tourist complex Asteras Glyfada in 1998. The Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities had identified part of a cemetery of the pre-Hellenic era, as well as a prehistoric precinct, around which there is a cemetery of late Roman times.
At the end of Vouliagmeni
At the tip of Vouliagmeni, which looks like a fjord, things have been cosmopolitan for years. Today, its columns and the walls of its four sides, which were made of stone, are preserved. Inside the premises of Asteras Vouliagmeni was found in 1924, the sanctuary of the ancient municipality of Aixonidon Alon, which covered the present areas of Glyfada, Voula and Vouliagmeni. The temple was dedicated to Apollo Zostira.
