Psaromoura is an attractive beach, protected from the north winds
Psaromoura, located 22km northwest of Heraklion and just 500m north of Agia Pelagia, like all beaches in the area faces East and is sheltered from the north winds usually blowing in the area. Right on the beach there are no hotels or restaurants, but there are many facilities within walking distance.
Stay nearby to Psaromoura beach, is a place with crystal and shallow waters
The beach is pebbly and very popular to locals, more so than tourists. On the north end there is a large rock with many foldings (the typical phyllitic stone of the wider Milopotamos area), that protects the beach from the waves. Another beautiful feature is the fish-boat that is tied to a makeshift pier, which gives the landscape a painting-like quality.
Till a few years ago Psaromoura was totally unorganized and was one of the most beautiful beaches of Crete. Unfortunately, this couldn’t last forever and has now become an organized beach, full of umbrellas, sun beds and a canteen that offers drinks. Recently, environmental organizations of Crete requested the removal of umbrellas from the beach, so that it could return to its original condition.
