The Acropolis of Lindos and its history
During classical φορές, although historically it was a Doric city, it normally participated in the Delos Alliance, but during the Peloponnesian War it had allied itself with the Lacedemonies. Its importance gradually diminished after the founding of Rhodes in 407 BC. Its ancient acropolis was exploited not only by the ancients but also later by the Romans, the Byzantines, the Ioannites Knights, and finally, by the Turks.
